The WoW Award

Celebrating the Wonder of Women

The Wonder of Women (WoW) Award was created to celebrate amazing female cyclists who are wonderful role models to others.

The inaugural WoW award is brought to you by Sing See Soon, one of Singapore's leading floral and landscaping companies led by avid cyclist Gracelyn Lin. In addition to her role as entrepreneur, Lin is an advocate for female empowerment and created WoW in 2021 to raise awareness for important issues affecting women. Sing See Soon has hosted events and workshops under the WoW banner to raise funds for non-profits like Breast Cancer Foundation, Daughters of Tomorrow and more. The WoW award is a natural extension to these initiatives.

Members of the public and the entire cycling community can now vote to decide the winner of the inaugural WoW Award on May 20 at FEMMES FIRST 2023. Everyone who votes (one vote per person) will  enter into a lucky draw where one lucky voter will win an Apple HomePod mini.

The Nominees

The five nominees in the running for the 2023 WoW Award are:

1. Irene Tan. She made waves, literally in 2018, for completing the full Ironman course in Gurye, South Korea, despite being a relative novice in endurance sport. She recently completed a 28-day solo trip in Malaysia to raise funds for Ride for Rations and has led all-female cycling trips overseas. On May 1, she will be doing a 100km cyclethon to raise money for the All Saints Home, a nursing home located in Tampines.

2. Anne Ang. A cancer survivor, Anne is an avid cyclist who is instrumental in the annual Cycle in Pink ride during Breast Cancer Awareness month. Not only is she active in cycling fund raisers and a strong advocate in raising awareness of the importance of early detection, the 'Cancer Warrior' recently completed a four-day trek in Mongolia in sub-zero temperatures to raise funds for Singapore Cancer Society.

3. Jessica Chee. Also known as 'Blessed', Chee is the founder of Green Buddies Singapore, an environmental advocacy group supporting sustainability. She was instrumental in last May’s #AllWheelsAsOne event which brought hundreds of cyclists together to learn more about the #SaveSoil movement. Blessed and Green Buddies are also active in tree planting initiatives and raising funds for various non-profits in Singapore.

4. Cheryl Tay. A certified fitness coach and triathlete, Cheryl is the founder behind Rock The Naked Truth - a body positivity movement - that has helped many to overcome their insecurities and find confidence in their bodies.  Rock The Naked Truth also advocates using the right methods to get in shape and to take care of yourself properly, by not resorting to quick fixes and shortcuts.

5. Candy Yap. A full-time Care Associate at Home Nursing Foundation's Wellness Club@Buangkok where she devotes her time to providing care to seniors in the centre, Candy is an active member of the Cycling Club at HNF Wellness Club, which encourages seniors to lead a healthy lifestyle. Every Friday, she also cycles to distribute lunch to seniors who are financially challenged or have mobility issues, to ensure that they have proper nutrition.

After the 8 days of voting, the 'race' for the inaugural WoW award sees Anne Ang in the lead with 52% of the voting, the chasing pack includes Candy Yap (21.6%), Jessica Chee (13.9%), Irene Tan (10.8%) and Cheryl Tay (1.6%). There is still 28 days to go, so anything can happen.

Vote for your favourite WoWzer today and stand a chance to win the Apple HomePod mini.
